THE ANSWER ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!

This book is a wonderful read for a person who has had a string of unsuccessful relationships and feels that the problem is everyone else! This is a book that will lead anyone to a greater level of maturity and understanding about love and how they love and how the way they love affects others. You really get an understanding of the pattern that is created by an emotional needy person and why they need and crave this love in an unhealthy way. For anyone who is dependant or codependent and may not even realize it, this is a great eye opener that helps you to look at your family history and how you perhaps were not really raised in a household that gave you that attention, validation, and emotional awareness you needed. So now you are an emotionally regressed adult looking for what you did not get growing up in relationships with not only lovers but friends. You are determined to make it work even when its not a good situation to be in. I think this read will bring anyone into self awareness and help them to be aware of others. I had to learn the difference between healthy love and unhealthy love, especially if you got some confusing messages growing up. Some people don't know they are codependant, because they are really successful and independant, people come to them for advice, but get them in a relationhip behind closed doors and the needy weak inner-child comes out. This is a MUST for everyone our society does not focus on this topic enough, however we focus in on the results of love addiction suicide, shopaholics, stalkers, serial daters (no break between relationships), substance abuse, trying to be perfect for love at all costs, people who feel victimized because they keep running into the same type of emotionally unavailable person. It's all in here. Love addicts: After reading this book its important to find things that validate you and make you happy a hobby, exploring talents, something that does not cost money (nothing you can show off about). Some counseling and journaling and you can beat this! Oh and do not forget to evaluate your complete circle and walk away from some friendships, you may even have to distance yourself from unhealthy family members. Don't feel guitly its your life! Enjoy

Hit the nail on the head

I was very satisfied with this book. Having read two books prior to this: Please don't say you need me and How many lies are too many, I was still searching trying to pin point "where" I had fallen back into Co dependent behavior (after years and $$$$$ in therapy). This book not only nailed it but gave me insight into my spouse as well, which took some of the sting out of a 20 yr marriage ending in divorce. The author provides a wealth of resources to further your knowledge, healing and hopefully recovery. It was a very clear non clinical read that had me hooked at the kindle sample. Not too many personal or third person stories, which can be a distraction given the topic. But enough examples to clearly illustrate the topic for the reader. If you are or with a co dependent this is a very helpful "next level" study on the topic and well worth the read.

This is a great book. It can literally change your life. Whether you are involved yourself in sex addiction, love addiction, relationship addiction, codependency, or similar issues, or if you just know someone else who is, this can help a great deal. The insights provided by this author are unique. She knows these areas better than any other author I have run into. She does relate her ideas to some classic works on the subject, e.g. Women Who Love too Much. Great book. Highly recommend it.

In this book Quassim Cassam develops an account of self-knowledge which tries to do justice to these and other respects in which humans aren't model epistemic citizens. He rejects rationalist and other mainstream philosophical accounts of self-knowledge on the grounds that, in more than one sense, they aren't accounts of self-knowledge for humans. Instead he defends the view that inferences from behavioural and psychological evidence are a basic source of human self-knowledge. On this account,
self-knowledge is a genuine cognitive achievement and self-ignorance is almost always on the cards.

As well as explaining knowledge of our own states of mind, Cassam also accounts for what he calls 'substantial' self-knowledge, including knowledge of our values, emotions, and character. He criticizes philosophical accounts of self-knowledge for neglecting substantial self-knowledge, and concludes with a discussion of the value of self-knowledge.

This book tries to do for philosophy what behavioural economics tries to do for economics. Just as behavioural economics is the economics of homo sapiens, as distinct from the economics of an ideally rational and self homo economics, so Cassam argues that philosophy should focus on the human predicament rather than on the reasoning and self-knowledge of an idealized homo philosophicus.

Lavishly illustrated guide to 1000 European species

This guide is on a par with the older Roger Phillips "Mushrooms" and very similar in size and format. Unlike Phillips, all photographs have been shot in situ. With so few guides to fungi available, and each covering a particular selection of species, it's best to assemble a good library - and this should be one of the major works. Even though the focus is Europe, many of the fungi have much wider ranges and this book is invaluable elsewhere in the world too (I use it regularly in temperate and tropical America).

An excellent, carefully compiled reference

This is a very useful book because it has well-taken pictures that show the habitat where the fungi was found. Also, the beginning of the book has pictures of spores as they look under a microscope and a color chart for the colors described in the text. The description of each fungi also lists any chemical reagent useful for identification and the expected result. A wonderful identification guide. He should write a similar book for fungi of the United States.

About the Author

Jeffrey Quilter is the William and Muriel Seabury Howells Director of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University, USA. He previously served as Director of the Pre-Columbian Studies Program and Curator of the Pre-Columbian Collection at Dumbarton Oaks, Washington DC and as a professor of Anthropology at Ripon College, Wisconsin. He has been involved in archaeological research particularly in Peru and Costa Rica. He has published numerous articles and books including Life and Death at Paloma (1989), Cobble Circles and Standing Stones (2004), Treasures of the Andes (2005), and The Moche of Ancient Peru (2011).

A model for archaeological overviews

Quilter's book is a wonderful and much-needed overview of Andean prehistory, written in a lucid and lyrical style that nevertheless conveys a rich amount of detail. There really is no comparison with other titles on the Andes; this one is far and away the best. A few things that I was particularly grateful for include:

-Excellent black-and-white photographs, maps, and line drawings throughout.

-Good coverage of areas that other survey books neglect, such as Ecuador and the tropical forest

-Useful discussion of how archaeology's intellectual history has informed interpretations of the Andean past

-Treatment of contentious issues is both empirically and theoretically sophisticated but also--gasp!--reads well.

Recommended for travelers, enthusiasts, college survey courses, and as a reach-for-it-first reference for scholars.

Enjoyable and Informative

Enjoyable and informative read. In recent years I've been studying archaeological artifacts stored at US museums and found the historic perspectives here to be helpful in understanding the potential cultures behind these objects. Quilter has a very readable style which makes his writing enjoyable to read.

Mapping the Civil War is a cottage industry that began during the war and has prospered ever since. In official reports and popular histories issued after the war, numerous maps gave military movement and battles a geographical clarity and purpose they often lacked for the soldiers fighting. In this useful compendium of maps, largely made up of David Greenspan's pictorial maps originally drawn for Bruce Catton's American Heritage Illustrated History of the Civil War (1960) and various hand-drawn and -printed wartime maps, the importance of maps in military history and in the history of the war becomes evident. The maps cover 15 major battles/campaigns, from Bull Run to Nashville--each introduced by a serviceable description of the engagement and supplemented by illustrations. Still, this book offers little that is new or surprising. Recommended only for those libraries that lack the Catton volume and The Official Military Atlas of the Civil War (1978) or other reliable collections of Civil War maps.

Helpful, but a little thin...

A common problem I experience when reading a book about a Civil War campaign is that it invariably lacks detailed maps. Battle Maps of the Civil War makes a great companion volume when confronted with this problem. It covers important battles from both the Eastern and Western theaters, but it is by no means comprehensive. The overview of the East covers from 1st Manassas to the Wilderness and Spotsylvania, while the discussion of the West begins with Shiloh, extending through the Atlanta Campaign to Nashville. Each campaign receives a two page write-up accompnied by period photos and maps, some excellent Don Troiani prints, and a terrific illustration of each battlefield that covers the highlights of the fight. Additionally, it has a short section on Naval strategy, and small bios of the more famous Union and Confederate General Officers. The book is a little thin, with no coverage of 1865, but overall a great reference.

Lifechanging for an 8yr old

I joined the Army and work for the National Park Service because when I was eight my elementary class had a trip to the library every week and the Am. Heritage Civil War was always on the backshelf with a book prop and it was the first thing that I went to every time because of these maps. Not completely accurate and condensed way down but they were and still are truly amazing works of art.
